Hyper IgM syndrome presenting as chronic suppurative lung disease
The Hyper-immunoglobulin M syndromes (HIGM) are a heterogeneous group of genetic disorders resulting in defects of immunoglobulin class switch recombination. Affected patients show humoral immunodeficiency and high susceptibility to opportunistic infections. Elevated serum IgM levels are the hallmark of the disease, even though in few rare cases they may be in the normal range. Hyper IgM is ass...

Introduction The true prevalence of chronic suppurative lung disease (CSLD) and other respiratory illness in Indigenous children is unknown. There is however little doubt that the burden of CSLD is disproportionately high in remote and rural Indigenous communities. In Central Australia the prevalence of high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) proven bronchiectasis in children (<15 years) is ...
متن کاملAetiology of chronic suppurative lung disease.
Forty one (1%) of 4000 children referred for respiratory disease had chronic suppurative lung disease not due to cystic fibrosis. Further investigations showed congenital malformations in six (15%), primary ciliary dyskinesia syndrome in seven (17%), 11 had immunological abnormalities (27%), and two bronchiectasis due to aspiration (5%). Therefore the underlying cause for the disease was found ...
متن کاملChronic suppurative lung disease with associated vasculitis.
We report a patient with chronic bronchiectasis who developed systemic vasculitis. The patient was initially treated with immunosuppression; however, the addition of antibiotic therapy improved control of her vasculitis and the need for immunosuppression was reduced. Chronic bronchial suppuration may have an aetiological role in the pathogenesis of this condition.
متن کاملHyper-IgM syndrome: a case report.
Hyperimmunoglobulin M syndrome is a rare primary immunodeficiency disorder. We report a case of a 6-month-old boy who suffered from developmental delays, frequent respiratory tract infection, and unusual fungal and bacterial infection. X-linked hyperimmunoglobulin M syndrome was ultimately diagnosed with decreasing immunoglobulin-G, A, and E (immunoglobulin G = 51.3 mg/dL, immunoglobulin A = 8....
